WORK EXPERIENCE
Member of Teaching and Research Staff,
Gdańsk University of Technology (formerly known as the Technical
University of Gdańsk), Poland (1988 - )
- Research in finite-state devices in natural language processing on
lexical level. Results include two software packages fsa and
utr available from http://www.pg.gda.pl/~jandac/fsa.html,
and described in the Ph.D. thesis, a finite-state library fadd
available from http://www.pg.gda.pl/~jandac/fadd.html
a collection of minimization algorithms including incremental
minimization available at http://www.pg.gda.pl/~jandac/minim.html,
and a collection of algorithms for incremental and semi-incremental
construction of finite-state automata available at http://www.pg.gda.pl/~jandac/adfa.html.
- Research in computer-aided teaching methods with focus on
lecture-description languages. Includes a one-month visit at the
University of Strasburg, France (1992), and a three-month visit at the
University of Karlsruhe, Germany (1993).
- Teaching programming in Pascal, numerical methods, concurrent
programming, data structures, operating systems, human-computer
interaction, compiler construction, natural language processing, and
computational linguistics.
- Supervised M.Sc. projects in natural language processing.
- Supervised practical training of foreign students.
- Administrator of a laboratory LAN of 17 computers running under
Solaris.
Visiting Professor, Ecole
Polytechnique de l'Universite de Tours (I was actually in Blois),
France (October and November 2004)
- Research in pseudominimal automata
Postdoc, Alfa-Informatica, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Netherlands
(2000-2003)
- Research in finite-state devices in natural language
processing
- Member of the Pioneer research project ALPINO - Algorithms
for Linguistic Processing
Programmer (scholarship holder), ISSCO, University of Geneva,
Switzerland (1995-1996)
- Developed algorithms and implemented software for incremental
construction of minimal, deterministic, acyclic, finite-state automata
and transducers, as well as for their use in natural language
processing at lexical level, including morphological analysis of both
known and unknown words (i.e. present in a lexicon or not), spelling
correction, restoration of diacritics, perfect hashing.
- Maintained www pages of the institute.
- Converted documentation of one of the workgroups of the Eagles
project to HTML.
Military Training, Poland (1987-1988)
- Military training and programming, including databases.
Programmer, Przedsiębiorstwo Informatyki Przemysłu Budowlanego
ETOB, Warsaw, Poland (1987)
- Programmed interfaces to databases
